In 1947, Pete Smith started repairing cars in rural Louisburg, North Carolina. He didn’t have a fancy shop or the latest equipment, just a chain slung over an oak tree to hoist cars and a determination to do right by his customers. With hard work and grit, he and his wife Ruth eventually built a one-bay shop where they built a name for themselves. That little garage is still with us today, though it has grown into a 10-bay full-service facility that can handle everything from a simple oil change to lifting an entire bus. As the years went by, Pete’s son Keith expanded on his father’s vision, building the business far beyond what Pete ever dreamed. Under his leadership, Pete Smith Automotive Group expanded to six additional repair locations and even a pre-owned car lot. Dedicated to excellence, Keith has also maintained his ASE Master Certification, ensuring the business stays on the cutting edge of automotive knowledge and repair. Pete’s other son, Greg, continued managing the original garage where it all began, keeping the family’s first location running strong. Today, thanks to Keith’s commitment and leadership, Pete Smith Automotive Group has become a trusted name across Franklin, Vance, Wake, and Warren Counties. Now, a third generation has stepped in to carry the torch. After spending time building careers outside the business, Keith’s daughter Kristi and Greg’s son Dallas returned in 2025 with a shared vision: to continue the family tradition and guide the company into the future, keeping the Smith legacy alive as we move toward 100 years!
